Peter Wells

Director

Originally from an industrial background, I joined Hoare Lea in 1988 as an Electrical Engineer after completing a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Aston University. The construction industry has offered a varied, enjoyable and always challenging work environment. I have been fortunate to be involved in the design of prestigious projects, such as the Principality Stadium, Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium and Glass Mill Leisure Centre. I also take huge satisfaction in the delivery of healthcare projects across Wales as part of national, regional and local frameworks.

Engineering human experiences.

My best memory of engineering experiences was the opening of the Principality (previously Millennium) Stadium roof just before kick-off at the 1999 Rugby World Cup. The shift in atmosphere was electric. In a matter of moments, the space transformed from a darkened indoor concert arena to a sunny outdoor rugby stadium. That’s when the crowd really got excited.

A defining moment.

A defining moment of my career has to be leading the design for the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in UAE. Not only was the project on a tight programme, but it was also one of our first BIM projects. Despite the steep learning curve, we were still able to deliver. With a combination of digital engineering tools, including: Revit, CAD and BIM solutions, we saved our engineers and designers significant time and resources, allowing a more collaborative and creative workflow.
