These days, engineering is a lot more than pipes and wires; we look at the building as a whole and are involved in every stage, from initial client discussions right through to construction and even the building’s ongoing performance. We collaborate with colleagues, architects and other construction professionals, playing a critical role in every building’s design.

Our Apprentices
Hoare Lea offer a great apprenticeship scheme in which you can both develop in academia but also skills development through real-life practice. Since joining I have been fortunate enough to complete a level 4 apprenticeship which has resulted in EngTech Accreditation and a HNC, whilst receiving brilliant support from senior members of staff. I have now had the opportunity to continue my development and learning through a Level 6 apprenticeship to gain further experience, knowledge and skills within building services.

The data apprenticeship offers a practical and supportive learning experience. Linking my projects to real work situations adds practical value, making the learning experience more relevant. The support from my coach and the community fosters a collaborative atmosphere. I believe that this apprenticeship will provide me with practical data knowledge which will benefit me in my role.

I joined Hoare Lea having worked in a different electrical engineering industry for 4 years not knowing much about Building Services Engineering. In the five years of working at Hoare Lea I have gained five years of practical work experience over a diverse range of sectors, attained a 1st class BEng degree, become IEng accredited and soon to be promoted to Senior Engineer by age 25. The apprenticeship was able to fast track my progression making me industry ready upon completion of my apprenticeship.

I was able to study alongside working full time in my existing role. The doors that have been opened by completing this course alongside my day-to-day role are huge. What might you be doing?
As an apprentice, your day-to-day tasks will vary, as we’ll expose you to all aspects of our work so you can discover what suits you. You’ll learn how to produce detailed designs and drawings, use the latest computer modelling software, undertake site surveys, or research ground-breaking technologies. Communicating will span all of these, as we regularly liaise with project teams, meet clients or end users, and attend collaborative meetings.

Our work covers almost every sector – from healthcare, residential and retail, to defence, arts & heritage and education – and includes exciting large-scale high-profile projects, such as Heathrow Airport T2A, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. We’re also a sociable and active bunch, and the firm regularly holds events such as inter-office sports competitions, sailing, pub quizzes, running events, nights out and much more!

We’ve made applying for a position with us as simple as possible:
- An online application with a CV, cover letter, and three questions.
Applications open at the start of March and close at the end of May. - A telephone interview with our recruitment team based on competency questions. These take place from March until June.
- Face to face interviews at one of our local offices. These take place from May until June.
