Our People: Eimear Moloney.
A passion for achieving net zero.
Eimear Moloney CEng FCIBSE is an Associate Director and our Head of Building Performance. This specialism has helped eliminate the ‘performance gap’ for several high-profile clients.
The Performance Group was set up…
… in May 2016. We saw that there was a need and an opportunity for buildings to be optimised. Since this time, the team has grown rapidly. We have now optimised more than 50 buildings, saved more than 5,000 tCO2 from entering the atmosphere every year, and delivered hundreds of thousands of pounds in cost savings for clients.
Successful building performance is…
…subjective. It means different things to different clients. But whatever the metric, we understand and recognise the importance of measuring and improving it.
Change needs to happen…
… because more than 80 percent of the buildings that’ll be standing in 30 years have already been built today. This means there’s a huge priority to decarbonise existing real estate by reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions right now.
Net-zero carbon…
…is now a realistic, reachable and non-negotiable target. However, our built environment represents a huge challenge. Building emissions sadly went up in recent years. With our industry accounting for a staggering 40 percent of the UK’s total carbon footprint, we have a responsibility to head-up the change.
Our opportunities are amazing, and we can make a huge difference.
I’m passionate about…
…encouraging change within the built environment. Our industry wants to adapt but is notoriously slow at it. We can work with businesses and senior management to create impact right now. It’s a common misconception that reducing emissions is expensive, its more affordable than many believe.
Achieving net zero carbon takes a systematic holistic approach; you’ve got to look at the building and its occupants as a single entity.
Net Zero Carbon is in touching distance…
…and whilst it may seem a challenge, the UK has an opportunity to be a world leader in this field and grow the expertise. There’s a whole new generation of young talent that want to do the right thing and we should be encouraging them.
When I’m not optimising…
…I’m wandering around interesting buildings. I’m a real architecture fanatic; I really appreciate the art. Plus, having recently completed designing and building my own home, I now understand and value it even more!
