Remembering Stephen Hawking.
An engineer’s tribute to an extraordinary man.
We were saddened to hear of the passing of one of the UK’s greatest figures, Professor Stephen Hawking.
Professor Hawking’s contribution to science, and indeed the world, is immeasurable.
Aside from his numerous achievements as a world-famous physicist and cosmologist, he was someone who meant many things to many different people, inspiring children, adults – and engineers like us – alike.
One of our partners, Russel Greenwood, has shared his personal tribute to Stephen Hawking:
“I’m not a big reader of novels or other fiction, but 10 years ago I was bought A Brief History of Time and The Theory of Everything. For me and many others, Professor Hawking’s ability to explain complex theories with such simplicity and beauty, in particular with the transfer of energy and light, was utterly inspiring. His work changed my engineering thinking – from being centred on compliance to looking at how we can open our minds beyond what the ‘rules’ attempt to dictate. Absolutely inspiring.”
